We are delighted to have been awarded the IFSM (International Society of Feline Medicine) Cat Friendly Clinic Award. This means we have to meet certain standards for our feline friends covering:
Reception/ Waiting Area
Hospitalisation of cats
Handling of feline patients
And Laboratory Standards
Our Feline Advocate making sure we meet and maintain these standards is our very own Nic Astbury Evans. Our cats now have a cat tree and screens in the waiting room and we offer blankets and Feliway spray to relieve any stress.
We also use this when they are hospitalised in a separate area from other species and give the cats boxes and hideaways, all to make them feel safe and secure. We have also met the standards for nearly all of the Gold Level Award including being unique in the area in having a dental x-ray machine. All of our cats have a full x-ray screening before a dental to look for root resorption which is a big problem in cats.
Our only shortfall from attaining Gold was not offering a cat only surgery. This was tried a few years ago, restricting one afternoon for cat only appointments but being such a busy clinic was not workable as dogs kept turning up needing treatment! For a detailed list of all criteria can be found on the International Cat Care website:
www.catfriendlyclinic.org. All our staff are very proud and happy to work to these standards for our feline family.
Due to a recent sad case where a young cat licked/ate part of a Lily, we want to remind people NEVER to buy these flowers..
We can now offer laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for spaying bitches and other procedures
Oli was rushed to the surgery 10 days ago after being found unconscious outside his home
