Say hello to Zeus!
Zeus is a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier who has had a life changing surgery.
Born in October last year, he presented for his puppy vaccinations with a deformity in his front leg which although initially didn’t seem to bother him, gradually became more problematic and painful.

By mid January he was becoming increasingly lame after his exercise and the deformity more swollen.
He was anaesthetised and had X-rays which revealed a deformity involving his wrist (carpus). Due to his bones still developing and growing, advice was also sought from a specialist orthopaedic surgeon who studied the X-rays and having discussed with our vets as to the best course of action which would, in the long term, be in Zeus’ best interests.
After having conversations with his owners, the decision was made to amputate his leg, as there was no realistic feasible option to save it.

Mid February, Zeus had surgery to remove his right front leg.
10 days later, he had good mobility and was allowed short walks on his lead.
4 weeks later, he was doing so well, permission was given to have longer exercise periods and walks.

His owners report he is doing well and adapted quickly. He enjoys walks and playing on the beach.
He really is the sweetest puppy, and should lead a happy life doing all those things any other young dog would.

Thanks to his owners for allowing us to share his story here.
